Welcome to my Gallery of Artwork

Using French Dupont dyes, heavy charmeuse silk, and a wax resist,

I begin to layer.  The fabric’s ability to absorb, the order in which dyes are layered, all contributes to the hues and tones of the final painting.

With a Bachelor of Science in Art, Christine is a self-taught silk painter, discovering the dyes on silk media in 1999. Christine's artwork was selected for the Orchids! Beauty and Beyond exhibit at the U.S. Botanic Garden, Washington D.C. in 2004, and the Tied Together:  Textile Art in the 21st Century exhibit at the Chandler Center for the Arts, Chandler, Arizona in 2006.

MY PAINTING PROCESS is a combination of silk painting and batik.

Artist Statement

Rapidly spreading on silk, transparent dyes cause the artist to swiftly create the painting with spontaneous action. My painting process is similar to a jazz musician; I begin with a general vision in mind, sketches alongside, and I go with the flow, capturing the mood of the day, trusting my experience to improvise.

New work consists of leaves, trees, birds, and water.

FRAMING SILK

After many requests for gallery wrapped artwork, I stopped framing under glass. I now use 1 1/2" gallery wrap canvas to wrap the silk over, fastening to the back, leaving the beauty of the natural silk. The silk can be dusted with a feather duster and only if needed can be removed from the frame to be dry cleaned. You can see the look of the gallery wrap in the photo to the right.

Other requests are to coat the silk with an acrylic medium. Silk covered in this medium was developed by the Artist Sandra Kay Johnson. Once the silk is coated with this medium the silk will look like an acrylic painting.

Floating silk panels are another option for framing silk, The silk is not framed but rather hung from a rod to fit the style of your decore. See the Floating silk page to view this type of framing silk.
